Most commercial fire pump problems don’t announce themselves. Pressure drops gradually. Components wear. And the first time many building owners find out something’s wrong is when a licensed inspector puts it in writing. Or when the system fails to perform.
Kauffman Co. keeps that from happening. We provide fire pump services for commercial and industrial properties throughout the greater Houston area, including installation, inspection, testing, and repair. From commissioning a new system to maintaining an existing one in accordance with NFPA 25, we manage every step of the process. One contractor. One invoice. No runaround.
Whether you need a new unit installed, an annual inspection completed before your fire marshal visit, or emergency repair on a system that’s down, our licensed team handles it.
The right system starts with the right sizing. We calculate your building’s demand, select the appropriate driver type – electric motor, diesel engine, or both – and handle full commissioning per NFPA 20, including the acceptance test before the system goes live. No guesswork, no shortcuts.
We install fire pumps for new construction, pump replacements, and system upgrades across commercial, industrial, and high-rise properties throughout the greater Houston area.

An annual inspection isn’t optional. NFPA 25 requires it, and your fire marshal and insurance carrier expect the paperwork to support it. Our licensed technicians perform a thorough inspection of every component to determine whether your pump will perform when it needs to.
During each inspection, we verify:
When something’s off, we document it and correct it before we leave. You get a complete service record ready for your next compliance review.

NFPA 25 sets a tiered testing schedule for your system: weekly, monthly, and annual. We perform the annual flow test and provide the documentation for your compliance file. The weekly churn test is straightforward enough for facility staff to handle in-house. We’ll walk you through what’s required.

The complaint we hear most from new clients is straightforward: their last contractor installed the pump, then became unreachable when service was due. Inspections slipped. Small problems grew larger. We built our business around not being that kind of contractor.
Kauffman Co. is your single point of contact for complete fire protection across the greater Houston area: fire pumps, alarms, sprinklers, suppression systems, extinguishers, and more.
We install, inspect, test, and repair fire pumps from manufacturers we trust to perform in commercial and industrial applications. We stock parts for each and know these systems well.
Aurora is one of the most widely specified fire pump brands in commercial construction. We install and service their centrifugal and vertical turbine models across a range of pressure and flow requirements. Parts are widelyavailable, which matters when something needs attention fast.

Grundfos offers energy-efficient fire pump options and integrates well with jockey pump setups for maintaining system pressure between demand cycles. A practical choice for facilities that need code-compliant fire protection without oversizing the system.

Fire pumps don’t fail on a schedule. When one goes down, your sprinkler system operates at reduced capacity or not at all. That’s not a situation you can put off until Monday.
Kauffman Co. provides 24/7 emergency service across the greater Houston area.
Fire pumps come in a few configurations: horizontal split-case, vertical turbine, and vertical inline. The right choice depends on your building’s water supply, pressure requirements, and available space. Most commercial buildings in Houston run horizontal split-case pumps. Industrial facilities drawing from below-grade tanks typically need a vertical turbine. Smaller properties with limited mechanical room space often use vertical inline units.
One thing worth knowing: every system also includes a jockey pump, also called a pressure maintenance pump. Its job is to hold constant system pressure between demand cycles so the main pump doesn’t run unnecessarily. A jockey pump that cycles constantly or runs without stopping is often the first sign something else in the system needs attention. If yours is doing that, call us.
Not sure what type of fire pump your building has or whether it’s sized correctly? That’s a conversation we have regularly. Give us a call, and we’ll help you figure it out.
Per NFPA 25, your system’s testing follows a tiered schedule. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Frequency |
What’s Required |
|---|---|
| Weekly | Churn test (no-flow run): start the pump, confirm it runs for 10 minutes without issue |
| Monthly | Controller inspection: check indicators, alarms, and transfer switch |
| Annually | Full flow test: verify rated GPM and pressure; includes suction and discharge gauge readings, packing inspection, and bearing lubrication |
| After any repair | Acceptance test: confirm the repaired component performs to spec before returning to service |
The weekly churn test is something most facility staff can manage in-house. It’s a 10-minute run with no special equipment. The annual flow test is a different story. It requires a licensed contractor and produces the documentation your fire marshal will ask for. Don’t let that one slide.
Fire pump service shouldn’t mean juggling contractors. From initial installation through every inspection and repair down the road, Kauffman Co. is your single point of contact for complete service. We’re a licensed, family-owned business that’s been serving Houston since 2006.

A fire pump boosts water pressure so your sprinkler system delivers adequate flow throughout the building. In high-rises, large warehouses, and facilities with low municipal supply pressure, the water source alone can’t deliver what the system needs. It closes that gap.
Any building where water pressure can’t deliver the required flow at the highest or most remote sprinkler head. That typically includes high-rises, large warehouses and distribution centers, industrial facilities, and properties drawing from a ground-level storage tank. If your building has a fire sprinkler system and sits in an area with limited municipal supply, a fire pump is likely part of the picture.
NFPA 25 requires a weekly no-flow churn test, a monthly controller checks, and a full annual flow test performed by a licensed contractor. After any repair, an acceptance test is required before the system returns to service. Kauffman Co. handles the annual test and provides complete documentation after every visit.
